Caring Bridge Update: Gender Reveal and Initial Test Results

As you may have already guessed from the new visual “theme” of the page*… It’s a girl! A sweet, precious baby girl! James and I think we have settled on a name for her already, but we’ll decide tonight and maybe make that announcement tomorrow. My heart is seriously full of joy for the lovely little lady I’ve been carrying for the past 20 weeks, so I figured I’d start with that bit of happy news.

As far as the other news goes, the genetic counselor called just now to let us know the initial results of the amnio. Initially, everything has come back normal, which rules out Downs Syndrome, Trisomy 18, and Trisomy 13…

… which is to say, we really still don’t know much as to the cause of our baby’s condition. We are still waiting on the full chromosomal evaluation results to see if there is a more rare chromosome disorder, as well as the viral blood test results that were done to see if a virus has caused the hydrops and other issues.

As always, the difficult part about getting results is that, in our situation, knowing what is causing the condition doesn’t change the inevitable outcome. The perinatologist and genetic counselor made it pretty clear that regardless, the only course of “treatment” would be termination of the pregnancy. (Of course, like I said on our “my story” page here, and if you know James and I at all, that’s clearly out of the question and not something we even gave a moment of consideration to)

We continue to pray for a miracle even while we prepare for the worst, and would love for you to pray along with us. In the meantime, we’re grateful for His strength to hang in there and continue with our journey.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
